| Alright, here goes.
The main character (Amamiya Yuuhi) wakes up one morning to find a talking lizard on his bed. The lizard tells the story of an evil mage who is planning to destroy the world by using the "Biscuit Hammer" which is quite literally, a hammer out in space roughly the size of Earth itself. To combat the evil mage and his army of golems, the Princess Anima created 12 Knights, each represented by an animal, i.e. lizard, dog, swordfish, etc. The knights are gifted with unique powers called "Domain Control" and each one has different uses (at first Yuuhi uses his to look at women's undergarments). The "host" of Anima is a girl named Asahina Samidare. She seems sweet on the surface, but she wants to destroy the world herself after the mage is defeated, and enlists Yuuhi to help her.
And from then on, everything gets cooler. Hope I did a good job of explaining it. >>

| I like the FMA manga. The anime is sorta lame. Brotherhood might be better though. Haven't seen it much... | |

| I would have to disagree with the above, I'd put the FMA manga and first anime on the same level. Both are enjoyable, and I'd recommend both because they're so different.
I feel that the manga dragged at some points, and the final boss at the end seemed rather shoehorned for the sake of having an ultra-climax. The resolution to the body problem was an unsatisfying, last-minute loophole. I didn't really care for Sloth in the manga, he wasn't as interesting as he was in the first anime. However, its portrayal of the Ishval/Ishbal war was really powerful compared to the anime's.
The anime got a bit to melodramatic at times, but it had moments of badassery that surpass anything in the manga, like Mustang vs. Pride. The open-ended ending, I felt, worked really well (which, of course, was ruined with the movie). I could spit on the filler bits, but the Other Brothers were a genuinely interesting pair of characters that added to the story. The anime took certain minor aspects and expanded upon them, which was neat.
Brotherhood... I stopped watching once it got to the canon split. I basically wanted to see Mustang's dummy corpse trick, and then I stopped. I didn't feel like seeing the same thing I had read over again. FMA doesn't seem like a very re-readable series to me, so the separate canons work in its favor.
oh god why do I care so much people have opinions live with it self geez
